Jammu and Kashmir Government Announces Revised Dearness Allowance for Employees Effective July 2024


 


Arrears to be Paid in March 2025; DA Rate Increased to 246% of Basic Pay


In a significant move aimed at benefiting government employees, the Jammu and Kashmir Finance Department has issued a new order revising the Dearness Allowance (DA) for employees who continue to draw their pay as per the 6th Pay Commission. The revised DA rate, effective from July 1, 2024, will see an increase from 239% to 246% of the basic pay.


Key Highlights of the Order:

1. Revised DA Rate:

   The Dearness Allowance has been increased from 239% to 246% of the basic pay, effective from July 1, 2024. This revision is expected to provide financial relief to thousands of government employees in the region.


2. Arrears Payment:

   Employees will receive arrears for the additional DA installment from July 2024 to February 2025. These arrears will be paid in cash in March 2025 and will be included in the monthly salary starting from March 2025 onwards.


3. Rounding Off Rules:

   The order specifies that any payment involving fractions of 50 paisa and above will be rounded off to the next higher rupee, while fractions less than 50 paisa will be ignored.


The decision to revise the DA rate was taken by the Council of Ministers, as reflected in Decision No. 026/03/2025 dated February 24, 2025. The Finance Department formalized this decision through Government Order No. Q7-F of 2025, issued on March 3, 2025. This order is a continuation of the earlier Government Order No. 329-F of 2024, dated October 16, 2024.


 Impact on Employees:

The revision in DA is expected to significantly benefit government employees who have been awaiting an update on their allowances. The payment of arrears in March 2025 will provide a lump sum amount that could help employees manage their finances better.

The order was signed by Mr. Santosh D. Vaidya, IAS, Principal Secretary to the Government, Finance Department. In the order, he stated, "This revision is in line with the government's commitment to ensuring the welfare of its employees and providing them with timely financial benefits."
