The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has released a new update for Class 10th students for the academic session 2025, detailing the minimum passing marks, the distinction between compulsory and additional subjects, and the grading system to be followed.
Key Highlights of the New Update:
1. Minimum Passing Marks:
To pass the Class 10th exams, students must secure at least 33% marks in each of the five compulsory subjects:
English
Mathematics
Urdu/Hindi
Science
Social Science

The marks in practical exams will also be counted towards the total passing percentage, ensuring that both theory and practical scores meet the required criteria.
2. Compulsory vs Additional Subjects:
The compulsory subjects are the core subjects that every student must pass to be eligible for certification.
Additional subjects are optional and may include subjects like Computer Science or other electives, which do not contribute to the minimum passing marks.
3. Grading System:
The 9-point grading system will be used for evaluation, where students will be assigned grades based on their performance in the compulsory subjects.
Students failing by a maximum of 6 marks may be given statutory grace marks, helping them pass the examination.
