The India Meteorological Department (IMD) is set to celebrate its 150th anniversary with a series of events, including the launch of a National Meteorological Olympiad (Met-Olympiad) featuring quiz competitions and attractive awards. The year-long celebration kicks off on January 15, 2024, and will culminate in a grand Foundation Day event at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, on January 15, 2025, in the presence of distinguished dignitaries.
About the Met-Olympiad
The National Meteorological Olympiad aims to promote interest and awareness about weather and climate sciences among students. It targets students from classes 8th, 9th, and 11th and will be conducted in two stages:
1. State Level: An online quiz competition for registered participants.
2. National Level: A contest and workshop for state-level winners in New Delhi.
The 1-hour online examination will consist of 60 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) based on meteorology and related sciences. Study materials, syllabus, and sample questions are available on the official portal at https://mausam.imd.gov.in/met-oly/.
Eligibility and Registration
Open to students of classes 8, 9, and 11.
Registration is online through the IMD portal.
The Olympiad will be conducted exclusively in English.
Students must ensure they have access to a compatible device (computer, laptop, tablet, or mobile) and a stable internet connection, as the organizers will not be responsible for technical issues during the exam.
Attractive Awards for Winners
State-level winners in each class will receive the following prizes:
1st Prize: ₹5000
2nd Prize: ₹3000
3rd Prize: ₹2000
