The Regional Transport Office (RTO) Kashmir, under the leadership of Syed Shahnawaz Bukhari, has taken stringent measures to enforce traffic rules across the region, collecting a total of Rs 1.75 crore in fines and penalizing approximately 1,600 violators. Srinagar district alone accounted for Rs 37 lakh of the fines, highlighting the focus on urban traffic management.
This enforcement drive aimed to ensure road safety and compliance with traffic regulations, targeting issues such as tampered speed-limiting devices (SLDs), unregistered vehicles, and other safety violations. A significant number of commercial and contract vehicles, including school buses and heavy transport vehicles, were found violating rules. Suspensions of licenses and blacklisting of vehicles were enforced as part of the zero-tolerance policy against violators.
Syed Shahnawaz Bukhari emphasized the importance of community involvement in road safety, urging teachers, community leaders, and religious figures to promote traffic rule compliance. He highlighted the need for a culture of responsibility among citizens to ensure safer roads for everyone.
This crackdown is part of the RTO's ongoing efforts to reduce accidents and create a safer traffic environment. The department plans to continue monitoring compliance and enforcing strict penalties against violators in the future.
