Srinagar, Nov 7: The Jammu and Kashmir government has instructed the J&K Board of School Education (JKBOSE) to conduct exams for classes 10 to 12 from February 15, 2025, aiming to complete them by the end of March. This decision is part of a broader move to gradually restore the November-December academic calendar in the region, especially for Kashmir and Jammu’s winter zones.
An official order from the Principal Secretary of the School Education Department, Suresh Kumar Gupta, explained that the plan follows a recent Council of Ministers decision to realign the academic schedule. Under this transition plan:
1. Classes 1 to 9: For students from classes 1 to 9, exams will be held in November-December of this year (2024). This shift returns these grades to the earlier schedule, aligning with the winter season and accommodating local academic needs.
2. Classes 10 to 12: For this year’s academic session (2024-25), students in grades 10 to 12 will take their exams beginning on February 15, 2025, with JKBOSE expected to complete them by the end of March. However, a full return to the November-December calendar for these grades will come into effect starting in the 2025-26 academic session.
3. Class 8: The order also specifies that, starting with the 2024-25 session, annual exams for class 8 will be conducted directly by individual schools as a summative assessment.
The government’s move is intended to create a more regionally adapted school schedule that aligns better with local weather and academic rhythms, ensuring consistency in the academic cycle for students across Jammu and Kashmir.
