Srinagar - The Cyber Police in Kashmir have issued an urgent warning to the public regarding the circulation of a fake J&K Bank APK file on WhatsApp. This fraudulent application is being promoted under the pretense of a KYC (Know Your Customer) update.
Unsuspecting users may receive messages like:
"J&K Bank KYC update for all savings accounts, current accounts, and credit cards. Please update your account."
These messages are designed to deceive users into believing that an immediate KYC update is necessary for their bank accounts. However, the APK file is a scam intended to steal sensitive banking information.
How the Scam Works:
1. The message urges users to download the fake APK file to perform a supposed KYC update.
2. Once installed, the app prompts users to enter confidential details, such as:
Account number
Mobile number
ATM card details, expiry date, CVV, and ATM PIN

3. By providing this information, users unknowingly grant cybercriminals access to their bank accounts, allowing them to withdraw funds or misuse sensitive data.
Risks of the Fake APK File:
The file likely contains malware or spyware, potentially compromising the security of users' devices.
Entering sensitive information into the fake app can lead to unauthorized access to bank accounts and significant financial losses.
Cyber Police’s Safety Advisory:
1. Do not download or install APK files from unofficial sources, particularly those received via WhatsApp or SMS.
2. Never share sensitive information such as your ATM PIN, CVV, or passwords with any unverified app.
3. Always download banking apps or updates only from the official Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
4. If you receive messages urging KYC updates, verify the authenticity by contacting your bank directly through official customer service channels.
The Cyber Police urge citizens to report any suspicious messages or APK files to the authorities immediately to prevent falling victim to such scams.
