The Jammu and Kashmir government has announced a shift in the academic calendar, moving the session for students in classes up to 9th grade to November-December. This decision aligns with the region’s winter season and intends to utilize academic time more efficiently. However, Education Minister Sakina Itoo confirmed that the government will not reduce the syllabus despite the shorter academic timeframe. Students will be required to cover the full curriculum within the revised session duration.
The change has received positive responses from stakeholders, including the Kashmir Trade Alliance (KTA), who highlighted that the new schedule will minimize the idle winter months often faced by students under the March session system. The government stated that the revised academic session is intended to benefit both students and educators by aligning better with local needs and climatic conditions.
