J&K Govt to Revive Old Pension Scheme, Says Omar Abdullah in Major Welfare Push

October 18, 2024, Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has reaffirmed the government's commitment to reinstating the Old Pension Scheme, a move aimed at securing the future of government employees. Announcing the decision on social media, Abdullah stated, "The J&K National Conference is committed to reinstating the Old Pension Scheme in order to prioritize the welfare of government employees. This initiative aims to provide stability and security for those who have dedicated their careers to public service. By reintroducing this pension plan, we are demonstrating our unwavering support for the hardworking individuals who serve the people."

This step fulfills a key promise outlined in the National Conference’s party manifesto, where the restoration of the Old Pension Scheme was highlighted as a top priority.

The Old Pension Scheme ensures retired employees receive a monthly pension amounting to half of their last drawn salary, providing long-term financial security. The decision marks a key priority for the National Conference and highlights its focus on employee welfare and recognition of their contribution to public service.

Abdullah, who took office on October 16, 2024, has positioned this as a central initiative, aligning it with his government's broader vision for the welfare of its workforce. The reintroduction of this scheme is seen as a major step towards strengthening the social safety net for government employees across Jammu and kashmir.
