J&K Government Approves Creation of 772 Posts in Government Railway Police

In a significant move, the Government of Jammu and Kashmir has approved the creation of 772 new posts across various ranks within the Government Railway Police (GRP). This decision comes as part of an effort to strengthen security and law enforcement in the newly established GRP units along the Katra-Banihal segment.

The approval was formalized under Government Order No. 367-Home of 2024, dated August 16, 2024. The decision is based on the Administrative Council Decision No. 100/07/2024, supported by references from the Director General of Police, J&K, and previous Government Orders.

The sanctioned posts span across various ranks, including one Superintendent of Police (SP), two Deputy Superintendents of Police (DySP), four Inspectors, and multiple other positions including Sub-Inspectors, Assistant Sub-Inspectors, and Constables. Notably, the order includes provisions for specialized roles such as Sub-Inspector (Photography) and positions within telecommunications (TEL).

This development is seen as a strategic measure to enhance the security framework of the Katra-Banihal railway segment, a critical stretch connecting key regions in Jammu and Kashmir. The move also reflects the government's commitment to bolstering the administrative and operational capabilities of the GRP in this region.

The pay levels for these positions have been detailed in the order, ranging from Level-2 for Constables to Level-11 for the Superintendent of Police, ensuring a structured compensation framework for the newly created posts.

This initiative is expected to provide a significant boost to the GRP's manpower and operational readiness, thereby enhancing the overall security landscape of Jammu and Kashmir’s railway network.
