The Jammu and Kashmir government has retracted approximately 6,000 job positions previously assigned to the Jammu and Kashmir Service Selection Board (JKSSB) for recruitment.
This affects various departments, including the Home Department, for positions planned for the financial years 2022-2023. The withdrawn positions include around 752 police sub-inspectors, about 4,000 police constables, 150 junior civil engineers, approximately 200 electrical engineers, among others.
These posts were referred to JKSSB before the central government finalized new reservation rules, which introduced a ten percent reservation for the state's hill community. Consequently, the positions have been withdrawn to align with these updated rules. The General Administration Department has directed the respective departments to finalize the reservation guidelines before reassigning the posts to JKSSB. This adjustment is expected to take one to two months, with new advertisements likely starting after August. JKSSB Chairman Rakesh Sharma confirmed the withdrawal and re-referral of the posts post-rule establishment, after which recruitment will resume.
Meanwhile, recruitment for the Forest Department, including Forest Guards and Foresters, will likely begin by the end of July, starting with a physical examination followed by a written test. Although notifications for these posts were issued in 2022, the recruitment process has yet to commence.
