MeT Predicts Light Rain and Snow in Jammu and Kashmir |
The Meteorological Department has issued a forecast for Jammu and Kashmir, predicting sporadic light rain and snowfall in the higher regions on the 11th and 12th of May. This prediction comes despite an expected increase in temperatures and dry conditions in the valley over the next several days. Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, a senior scientist at IMD, mentioned to Kashmir Life that dry conditions are likely to prevail until May 10th, with a chance of afternoon thunderstorms.
Starting May 11th, the weather is expected to turn partly to generally cloudy, with light rain and snowfall anticipated in many areas, particularly at higher altitudes. On May 12th, some regions might experience moderate rainfall. Dr. Ahmad advises farmers to refrain from farming activities during these two days. The weather is expected to clear up from May 14th to 17th, following a brief period of light rain and cloudiness on May 13th.
Temperatures are projected to rise in the coming days, potentially reaching up to 30°C, but this will be followed by rainfall over the weekend. The local weather department in Srinagar has also advised farmers to suspend farming on the 11th and 12th of May in light of the weather changes. This update comes as the valley experiences a notable increase in day and night temperatures, prompting residents to switch from winter to summer clothing after an extended winter period.
